Getting to know...Bad Hombres

Ahead of their CC's appearence with Shredd & Sobriety on Saturday 16th February we put some questions to Jack Conlon from Bad Hombres to help you get to know them a bit better...

Bad Hombres

BAD HOMBRES: (L-R) Brendan Cairney (guitar), Innes McGarry (drums), Jack Conlon (guiar/vocals) & Paul Duff (bass)

Describe your sound in five words...

"Non apologetic, confrontational, political punk"

Biggest influences...?
"We all have a range different influences, so I’ll try narrow it down to who we all like. The big ones are definitely Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, The Smiths, The Beatles and The Jam. There’s a few other ones in there like Black Sabbath, The Pogues and The Clash, but those are the main ones."
Favourite lyric?
"“You’re the outcast, you’re the underclass, but you don’t care, because you’re living fast’' - Bring It On Down by Oasis.
Favourite festival?
"T in the Park if it was still going, but Tenement Trail and St Lukes All Dayer are up there as well."
Best gig you've been to?
"It’s a toss up between Kasabian at T in the Park, Arctic Monkeys at TRNSMT and The Stone Roses at the Etihad. The Stone Roses gig was a once in a lifetime moment and they sounded as good as ever, so that probably edges it. I seen The Pogues at the 02 Academy and that was something else as well.
Pete or Carl?
"Has to be Pete! The man’s a genius and a bit of an enigma. Carl is cool as well but Pete just has a bit more about him: he's one of the greatest song writers of all time."

If you could go back and see one band, who would it be?
"Either The Doors or Pink Floyd in their prime. I seen a live version of Light My Fire on YouTube Jim Morrison’s vocal performance was mesmerising. Then there’s Floyd, arguably the most gifted band of all time and I imagine there live shows were an experience."
First album you bought?
" I’m not sure about the rest of the lads, but mine was "Costello Music" by The Fratellis. Unbelievable band and every tune on it is a banger, still listen to it every week!"
T or TRNSMT?
"T. TRSNMT has had a better and rockier lineups but for a sheer laugh, not many weekends will be better than your first time at T. Cannae beat camping and getting smashed with your mates in a field before heading off to see some class acts."
Top 5 new bands?
"Gallus, Shambolics, Shredd, The Blinders and Slouch."
How important is the Glasgow scene to the band?
"Glasgow has always been the main hub of music in Scotland, so it make sense that it is now. The garage rock/punk scene is thriving right now and Glasgow, being a city that is soaked in culture and politics, is flying the flag."
Morrissey or Marr?
"Listen to our latest single, "Dont Panic Steven" and make your mind up.
Favourite venue?
"Our favourite venue we’ve played without a doubt is The Priory in Glasgow. If you know, you know. For attending gigs, it's The Barras."
Noel or Liam?
"Liam gets a lot of stick for not having the talent of Noel, but Oasis would not have been the same without him. He was the fucking attitude of the band and that’s what made them, and for a period he was the greatest front-man on the planet. Unbelievable voice as well.""
Top 3 bands...?
"Oft, that’s a hard one. If I narrowed it down for three for the band as a whole I’d say Oasis, The Beatles and The Stone Roses. Notable mentions to The Jam and Pink Floyd."
If you could have written one song, what would it be?

"For me, it'd be "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd...and I’ve just been joined by Paul (Duff, Bad Hombres' bassist), so he's going to chip in..."

Paul: ""In My Life" by The Beatles. It’s got it all."

Non-musical inspirations?
Jack: "Tough one! There’s a few authors like Salinger, Huxley, and Bradbury who have definitely influenced the lyrical side of things, and there’s too many politicians and the like to mention!"
Irn-Bru: Old or new?
Both: "Not much difference between them to be honest. Both a great curer. "
Top 3 albums?
Jack: "The Smiths - Meat Is MurderThe Stone Roses - The Stone Roses and Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon."
Paul: "The Beatles - Abbey RoadThe Stone Roses - The Stone Roses and Fleetwood Mac - Rumours."
Dream collaboration?
Jack: "Johnny Marr! The man is an absolute wizard on the guitar and he is cool as fuck".
Paul: "My name sake Paul McCartney. He’s the whole reason I started playing the bass so I couldn’t say anyone else."
