Getting to know...Felix And The Sunsets
Ahead of their debut Glasgow appearance with The Good Arms, Third Party and The Monocasters in Priory on Friday 5th July, we put some questions to Edinburgh trio Felix And The Sunsets to find out what makes them tick...
Tell us a bit about the band :
We're a garage rock three-piece from Leith, Edinburgh called Felix And The Sunsets. Our music is like 1967 and 1977 smashed together.
Describe your sound in 5 words?
Imaginative garage rock, passionate punk.
FELIX AND THE SUNSETS: (L-R) Jonnie Wallace (drums), Felix Christie (back - vocals/guitar), Lukas Christie (bass)
How’s Edinburgh for music these days?
Sadly a good few venues have shut down, Leith Depot being a recent one to announce its closing due to developers greed, but the creativity, talent community is always there and won't be stopped!
Biggest influence?
Maybe Jimi Hendrix. He probably tops all the others for creativity, vision, weirdness, and impact.
Top 3 bands?
Bob Marley and the Wailers. The Sex Pistols. Iggy and The Stooges.
Best gig you’ve been to?
Saw Tame Impala, Jack White and Arctic Monkeys at Mad Cool in Madrid, it was pretty incredible.
If you could have seen one band live…?
The Beatles in Hamburg.
Favourite lyric?
"The night I was born, the moon turned a fire red" - Jimi Hendrix, Voodoo Chile.
Noel or Liam?
I go on and off them both, Liam's sounder though.
If you could’ve written one song, what would it be?
"Born To Run" by Bruce Springsteen.
Favourite venue?
Leith Theatre. Soon be to be known as Edinburgh's Barrowlands!
Dream collaboration?
Jack White. He's an inspiration so any chance to learn from him would be incredible.
Top 5 new acts?
Supa And Da Kryptonites; Fabric Bear; Jonnie Wallace; Acrylic; The Lazy Spacemen.
First gig you went to?
It was a performance from the Art and Drama after-school club that I went to on Friday afternoons. The guy who ran it was played amazing guitar solos and "Great Balls of Fire", and my wee brother Lukas who was about 6 at the time got up and sang "The Boys Are Back In Town". Definitely one of the coolest thing I'd ever seen and a lightbulb went on in my head.
Jack or Victor?
They belong together so I couldn't choose.
Non-musical inspirations?
I like Coen Brothers films, they're so brilliant and weird. Same for Wes Anderson films.
Top 3 albums?
Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin IV by Led Zeppelin and Darkness On The Edge Of Town by Bruce Springsteen.
